Checkout Rates FAQ

ShipBlink’s Rate Calculation Methods – Dimensional vs Actual Weights

⭐️ Automatically assign boxes to Order items based on their Dimensional Weight or Actual Weight.
⭐️ Split Orders into multi-box shipments with a single click.

Most of the orders placed with your store might contain multiple items each, which raises the question of how they are being packed in boxes and shipped efficiently. We are here to answer that question for you.

  • Essentially, when the customer is at the checkout page, ShipBlink automatically calculates the best fitting box sizes (based on what is available with the Carrier) and the total number of boxes required by analyzing the dimensional weight of all the articles in the order, in the most optimal way possible.
  • It also shows you which item should be placed in a box, regardless of which Carrier you choose to work with. This saves you from solving the complex problem of figuring out efficient packing and listing accurate prices.
  • 100+ carriers like UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL are then instantly inquired to present various rates available for the respective shipment (based on the dimensions of boxes that are calculated). This allows your shop to always quote desirable shipping charges, including the negotiated rates between you and the carrier (if applicable).
  • Ultimately, the goal is for the orders to go out in the least boxes possible, to provide an economical shipping process for all the parties involved, and to be kinder to the environment by minimizing waste.

Mandatory Step:

🚨 Before proceeding further, please ensure that you update your Product weights on your Shopify channel by referring to this guide or BigCommerce channel by using this one. This is compulsory for you to be able to ship your parcels successfully.

Dimensional Weights Method (Highly Recommended):

Introduction to Dimensional Weights Method Guide

  1. Define your available Parcel sizes on ShipBlink by following this guide
  2. Update your Product dimensions for your e-commerce for your respective channel by following the Shopify guide or BigCommerce guide (whichever one is applicable for you)

Product Weight Method (Less Recommended):

  1. Define your available Parcel sizes here on ShipBlink.
    • This falls under the less recommended method because the box selection and allocation are done in the best possible way using your product’s actual weight instead of the dimensional weight. In few cases where the product’s density lies on the extreme ends of the scale, it might calculate the appropriate package size required for that item incorrectly.

Simple Method

Assuming you have all the Weights added to your Product on the E-commerce channel, ShipBlink simply adds up the weight of all the items available in the Cart/Order.
